Ivo did is undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, and he was awarded his Master’s degree in Biophysics and Bionanotechnlogy by the University of Minho.

Ivo´s work focus on the development of lipidic nanoparticles, for the specific delivery of therapeutic compounds for the treatment of hard-to-cure diseases.

He is currently developing his doctoral degree investigation, at the Universities of Azores and Minho, focusing on the production of a recombinant version of a thrombolytic enzyme, from a Bacillus subtilis endogenous to the São Miguel island. This enzyme is to be encapsulated in exosome-like nanometric liposomes, as a means to achieve targeted delivery of said enzyme to the circulating thrombus.
