WEBPAGE
Summary
The MACBIOPEST project brings together the cultural, natural and scientific-technical heritage of the Macaronesian region (Canary Islands, Madeira, Azores and Cape Verde), with the aim of solving one of the most pressing problems of our society: obtaining more effective and safer phytosanitary agents , both from a health and ecological point of view, that contribute to sustainable growth.
OVERALL OBJECTIVE: Develop less toxic and more effective biopesticides for the treatment of crops and harvests that allow the development of sustainable agriculture
Specific objectives:
- Study, selection, collection and cultivation of the botanical resources of Macaronesia to obtain more powerful, selective and environmentally friendly biopesticides.
- Extraction, enrichment and optimization of more efficient and selective plant extracts. Implementation of extraction and enrichment technology that is respectful of the environment and that allows it to be obtained on an industrial scale.
- Both in vitro and in vivo evaluation of the generated extracts and their potential application in the field, for inclusion in comprehensive pest control plans.
